Quest is a great fantasy adventure through
a world of powerful gods, strange magic and dream cities: Of mystical beasts
guarding untold treasures. Take up your spellbooks and sword and begin your
Quest. If street fighting and racing through space are not for you then how
about classic fantasy role playing? Quest:GME has all the aspects of a great
fantasy adventure combined with the advantages of PBM. (GME stands for Game
Master Edition.)
The programs have been written of years and are continually being developed
with new game features being are added constantly. Many games are run in parallel,
each with their own maps, dungeons and cities and each with a regular, player
produced newsletter.
Quest is different to normal computer games. It is a game based on turns. Each
game week, the different game worlds have different game week durations, you
issue orders for your party. These are sent to KJC Games along with orders from
thousands of other players. These are processed and the results are emailed
or posted back. Over weeks and even years the game develops as new features
are added, Quest already has a rich history of updates as it is now over 10
years since the game started. Your party also develops as you complete quests
and learn ways of tackling monsters and rival parties. You will encounter other
parties along with possible player details - a privacy option is available for
those that prefer to keep to themselves. Through contacting them, you will form
friends as well as alliances.
This is a sample of what to expect when playing Quest.
The turn is for a party of adventurers that have been out questing for a few
weeks.
Using the turncard, Bob Smith filled in the relevent data and a set of orders.
The order formats are all in the rule book. They may look strange but after
only a few goes, they will prove to be very simple. Once the orders were completed
they were submitted by pressing the button at the bottom. (The postal turncard
uses a very similar turncard.)
(Please note that this is a screen-grab of the filled in turncard)
What follows are the results of the orders. Results are sent at either the
start of the new game week or generally the next day if a new week has already
started and you are due a turn. As can be seen each order is printed along with
the results.

28 gold. You have until the end of the next turn or game week to accept after

We went south using up 4 movement points. Now we are in the open.
As we moved along, we bumped into a Gatherer(4377). (Blurb given below). We got
nearer to it, We took a careful look at it. There was one. It appeared
friendly. As a result of our chatting we gathered that Tabuka is nearly 1 days
travel north.
We journeyed 3 sectors, using 12 movement points.
E 4377 -- Our party will attack monster or NPC# 4377 on sight.
As we moved along, we bumped into a Gatherer(4377). (Blurb given below). We've
found our target!
As we approached it, we gave it the once over. (1 Gatherer). It did not appear
to be injured.
We had the element of surprise. Lucian impetuously fired an arrow, missing
the mottled Gatherer.
Kisin cast miracle Healing at all the party. Impetuously Celes winged a
stone, within a finger's breadth of the mottled Gatherer.
Well oiled crossbow mechanisims worked faultlessly to launch bolt after bolt.
Kisin cast miracle Call Monster. The spiritual form of an Ice Dragon
appeared and attacked the mottled Gatherer. The mottled Gatherer's hide was
undamaged by Lucian's black feathered arrow. The mottled Gatherer retreated.
Draelo rashly fired a black feathered arrow, just failing to hit the mottled
Gatherer's body. The mottled Gatherer has escaped. The enemy fled. We didn't
get any treasure! As the enemy disappeared, we saw that it was seriously
injured. We earned 24 experience points.
E 4377 -- Our party will attack monster or NPC# 4377 on sight.
During our travels, we bumped into a Gatherer(4377). (Blurb given below). We've
found our target!
As we drew closer to it, we took a careful look at it. (1 Gatherer). It was
seriously injured.
We lost the initiative. Kisin the priest targeted the mottled Gatherer. He
set off towards the enemy rapidly in pursuit. Draelo impetuously loosed an
arrow, the shaft whistled past the mottled Gatherer's body.
Kisin cast miracle Healing at Draelo. Lucian fired a black feathered arrow,
the shaft whistled past the mottled Gatherer's body. Celes winged a stone,
missing the mottled Gatherer's hairy body. Draelo loosed an arrow, within an
inch of the mottled Gatherer's body. Dian pulled the trigger, releasing a
quarrel, missing the mottled Gatherer's body. Celes carelessly hurled a stone,
within a finger's breadth of the mottled Gatherer. Dian fired a bolt, just
failing to hit the mottled Gatherer.
Bolts and quarrels hammered into the ground around the enemy.
Lucian fired, missing the mottled Gatherer. Celes winged a stone, glancing
the mottled Gatherer's fleshy body. Dian fired the black feathered quarrel,
hitting the mottled Gatherer, forcing a scream of agony. Carelessly Celes
hurled a stone, missing the mottled Gatherer's body. The mottled Gatherer
retreated. Dian rashly fired, the bolt skittered past the mottled Gatherer's
fleshy body. The mottled Gatherer has escaped. The enemy fled. We got no gold
from this fight. As the enemy disappeared, it was noticed that it was seriously
injured. We earned 14 experience points.
L 33 -- Our party heads towards the town of Tabuka(33). We journeyed north
using up 4 movement points. Now we are in the open.
We moved north using up 4 movement points. We found ourselves in the open.
We travelled north using up 3 movement points. We are now in Tabuka.
It cost 11 movement points to go 3 sectors.
I 0 -- In Tabuka we spotted the following other party: Gunthars Men(1212).
We looked around some of the shops but found none of any special interest.
I 99 -- Our characters' skills with the various weapon types are shown
below.
R 4 -- Unfortunately we don't have enough movement points left to rest for
so long. The rest time has been reduced accordingly. Some of the party felt
much better after the rest. This rest used up our last 3 movement points.
C 5 902 0 -- 43 food was made. This spell cost 8 power points and Kisin
gained 16 experience points.
P 0 -- Our priest prayed for several hours. We got no answer this time. The
gods must be busy!
The total distance moved was 6 sectors. We're in Tabuka. We're too cheap to pay
for an inn, so we camped in a barn. We consumed 6 rations before sleeping
through the night. We regained 14 power points overnight. We read a notice
proclaiming that bounties are offered by the town council of Tabuka(33):
Quikadu Skins @ 63 gold and Lizard Man Hides @ 20 gold each.

Our appearance would hardly make others flee in terror. Our shields are
devoid of any emblems. We are still working on our new battle cry.
We are not avoiding combat with other parties and our general attitude to
others is friendly. We have been peaceful for 1 consecutive turns. Let them try
us! We'll do lots of damage. Our flee factor is 50%. Our party is not waiting
to ambush anyone, and we are not watching for anyone. Our party isn't on any
missions.
At the moment we don't have any specific attitudes.
We are moving at a medium speed in the town of Tabuka(33). We will travel at
a medium speed in any dungeons we enter, and at a fast speed in the wilderness.
The Allaire's Motley are all in fine health. If this is still the case next
turn, we will have 21 movement points.

GATHERER (894)
This creature looks like a large human brain, as big as a medium-sized dog, which
moves using a number of tentacles. Most gatherers have between eight and twelve of these.
The soft-looking surface of the 'brain' is in fact a hard chitinous carapace. Attached to
the front of the brain by slender stalks are two floating eyes. Despite its unpleasant
appearance, this creature is in fact a friendly, peaceful being, whose only concern is to
gather as much knowledge as possible, hence its name.
GATHERER
It is said that they were put in the world by Phyloqure to gather and spread
knowledge around Kharne. It is believed that killing one of these creatures will bring bad
luck and will anger Phyloqure. The gatherer is a creature which most characters would
rather talk to than fight, anyway, since it is very likely that it has some interesting
information of the geography and other features of the area where it is found.
